ABOUT MICROFLIGHTS
Microflights, the only microlight pilot training school in Buckinghamshire, UK, serves the area between Milton Keynes, Aylesbury, Bicester and Brackley. Established in May 2002 by James McCafferty, a qualified microlight flying instructor, it operates from Finmere Aerodrome, near Buckingham, and Ses Salines Aerodrome in Mallorca.
Microflights offers a menu of introductory trial flights to suit every budget, with prices starting as low as £35, and also offers full microlight pilot training courses leading to the National Private Pilot’s Licence (Microlights).
The school has three training aircraft, in which trial flights and early training takes place. In the UK we use the Quantum 912 flexwing (“weight shift”) microlight, with a 80hp Rotax 1200cc four-stroke engine. At our second base in Mallorca we fly the Flash 2 Alpha flexwing, manufactured by Mainair Sports Ltd of Rochdale and powered by a 500cc Rotax air-cooled two-stroke engine, and the American-manufactured three-axis (fixed wing) Rans S-12 Airaile, with a Rotax 582 two-stroke engine.
At Finmere we have a 700m tarmac runway with dawn to dusk flying amidst beautiful countryside in quiet, uncluttered airspace. Whilst other schools based at grass airfields lose valuable flying time in the winter months when their airfields become waterlogged, our tarmac runway keeps us flying all year round! We are within just a few minutes’ flying time of some of Buckinghamshire’s and Northamptonshire’s premier visitor sites, including Stowe Landscape Gardens, Silverstone Grand Prix race circuit and a host of picturesque villages. Come and see for yourself! Our newly-acquired aerodrome at Ses Salines in the unspoilt south-eastern corner of Mallorca is just four miles from the sea and allows us to train in good flying weather and spectacular scenery all year round.
